Sinfonia Gulf Coast performs Peter and the Wolf Op. 67, a "symphonic fairy tale for children" written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. Seasoned actor Bruce Collier uses his iconic performance voice as the narrator of this classic children's story. Originally written for orchestra, this version was adapted especially for woodwind quintet and will be performed by the award-winning Fountain Five Wind Quintet — Sinfonia’s Woodwind Quintet in Residence. For this performance, Brenna Wiinanen (flute), Nicholas Kanipe (oboe), Connor Croasmun (clarinet), Josie Whiteis (bassoon), and Tarre Nelson (horn) will illustrate the story musically by using different instruments to play a "theme" that represents each character in the story. Other offerings also will be on the program.
Sinfonia Gulf Coast presents award-winning multi-instrumental quartet, Invoke. Described as “... not classical but not, not classical ... beautiful, adventurous, American and immediately engaging” (David Srebnik, former SiriusXM Classical Producer), Invoke strives to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. Invoke encompasses traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism. Their awards include first prizes in the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, the M- Prize International Chamber Arts competition, and the Coltman Competition. In addition to this public performance, Invoke will visit and perform in various Walton County schools as part of Sinfonia’s music education community outreach program.
